Borges

's Sustainability Journey

Established in 1896, Borges is a Spanish company known for its production and distribution of Mediterranean food products. The company offers a range of items including olive oils, nuts, dried fruits, vinegars, and pasta. Over its long history, Borges has focused on combining traditional methods with modern technology to maintain quality in its products.

The Challenge

Borges sought better to understand the environmental impact of their core product offerings. In 2024, Foodsteps conducted a comprehensive life cycle assessment (LCA) to measure the carbon footprint of 10 Nut and Nut Beverage products produced by Borges, intended for retail in Spanish and French supermarkets. This assessment took place from May to June 2024, using data collected from the year 2023.

The Solution

By conducting a comprehensive Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of Borges' products, we were able to provide valuable insights into the carbon emissions in their supply chain, thus empowering them with a clearer perspective on where to concentrate their decarbonisation efforts in the most impactful areas. Today, they are guided by our data and supported by our in-house carbon specialists at Foodsteps, as they take a proactive approach to getting insights into the carbon emissions of their supply chain.
