Read on for a glimpse of some of the key takeaways from the session.

Building a Strong Business Case for LCAs

Getting leadership buy-in requires more than data – it needs a compelling narrative about the benefits of conducting LCAs. To clearly communicate the benefits, a business case should:

  • Clearly define the expected outcomes and how data will be used.
  • Tie sustainability work to customer relationships – both for consumers and business customers.
  • Prepare for any outcome – the results of LCAs cannot be predicted. If the results do not match your hypotheses, think about how they can help improve your sustainability performance.
  • Recognise where budget ownership sits (e.g., marketing, finance) and tailor messages accordingly.

Supplier Collaboration and Data Challenges

Collecting reliable supplier data can be one of the biggest hurdles in LCA projects. Success with suppliers depends on:

  • Open, transparent dialogue with suppliers about how data will be used.
  • Relationship-building (often face-to-face) to establish trust.
  • Flexibility, patience, and guidance, recognising that data quality and availability vary widely.
  • Helping suppliers understand the mutual benefits, such as shared visibility in sustainability communications.
