At Foodsteps, we partner with the industry’s leading thinkers to ensure our platform stays at the cutting edge of climate science. That's why were' thrilled to welcome Dr. David Willer as our newest Impact Advisor.

Dr. David Willer

David leads a research team at the University of Cambridge focused on innovation in underexploited, high-potential fish and seafood sectors to improve human health, environmental sustainability, and evidence-led policy. A core strand of his work is the development of novel “breakthrough” aquaculture production systems, alongside research on how to increase demand for sustainable, nutritious seafood as an alternative to less sustainable protein sources.

His work spans interdisciplinary and collaborative projects involving academia, industry, and regulatory bodies, with a strong emphasis on real-world impact. This includes policy-relevant research to improve the sustainability and performance of global fisheries and aquaculture food systems, as well as consultancy for leading food-sector companies to support more sustainable decision-making. These interests also align closely with his role as an Impact Advisor at Foodsteps, where robust evidence, practical translation, and measurable sustainability outcomes are central.

David is Founder of Naked Clam Ltd, speaks widely at international events, and has an active media presence. He is also a Fellow in Natural Sciences, and Praelector at Murray Edwards College, University of Cambridge. His background includes a Henslow Research Fellowship, a PhD in Zoology, and a first-class degree in Natural Sciences from Cambridge. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Outside work, he is passionate about fitness and the outdoors, competes in multisport and adventure races, and is a Health Coach.

We're delighted to welcome David to our growing Advisory Board.
